A while back I wrote to you all about the legendary 2018 National Field Trial Champion “Cheeky” and her partner, a legend herself, Sue Taylor.
This weekend I was honoured and privileged to be able to watch this fearless team of 12 years complete their final trial together, with a ribbon of course!
I sat and watched this team through their four series at Cheeky’s home, the Saskatoon Retriever Club, and with every bird retrieved, hid the tears behind the sunglasses as Cheeky showed everyone what an amazing champion she is and how she has earned her career.
At the end of the final series, was a big open swim and Cheeky savoured every minute of it. The sky was calm, the water was smooth and Cheeky’s wake glistened in the sunlight. It was like she knew this was her final bow of the show.
With bird to hand the gallery and the gunners cheered and clapped loudly. The gallery knew what that moment was, the judges did not. They must have wondered why so much emotion and why is Carrie hugging Sue.
Sue and Cheeky, it has been a pleasure watching you two over the last 9 years that I have know this duo. Congratulations.❤️
