With sadness, this week we learned of the passing of Lorraine Hare. Lorraine was a well-known figure in Canadian retriever field trials whose involvement in the sport spanned many decades and produced an extraordinary record of success.
Her name became particularly well known through her Labrador, NFTCH-AFTCH Oakridgertvr Going All The Way, affectionately known as Teezer. Handled by Lorne Langevin, Teezer won the 2009 Canadian National Retriever Championship for Lorraine, establishing their place in Canadian retriever history. Lorraine’s involvement in the sport continued with another outstanding Labrador, The Springwaters Mr Y of Tamsu, whom she co-owned with John Mairs, winning the 2019 National, handled by Lorne as well. Lorraine also handled her own dogs that were National finalists.
Her record tells only part of the story. For those involved in Canadian retriever field trials, Lorraine was part of the community that travelled the country, trained dogs, supported handlers, stood beside friends at trials and Nationals, and helped make the sport what it is today.
Lorraine’s legacy will live on not only in the titles attached to her dogs’ names, but in the people and dogs who were part of her journey.
Our heartfelt condolences to Lorraine’s dear friends and family.
