NATIONAL WORKERS' PARTY

Wednesday, September 17, was a day dedicated to honoring the workers who make our National event possible. There are too many people to mention individually, as they have taken on numerous roles, including marshals, gunners, gun captains, equipment managers, bird stewards, parking attendants, social media volunteers, reporters, photographers, hospitality workers, and many more. These tireless individuals, now perhaps a bit weary by mid-week, have worked for months in preparation for this event. The day doesn’t end when the last dog run, crews move to the next site to prepare for the following day’s tests, the bird crew at headquarters is busy managing today’s supplies and organizing for tomorrow.

We express our gratitude to the competitors and volunteers who participated in the “gunning” tradition, where teams consist of individuals from different regions, allowing them to forge new friendships and share some stories.

Field Trial Chairman Peter Dozois recognized a long list of contributors, including the MGDA National Committee, gunners, the hospitality team, setup crews, and many others. Of particular importance was the “pumping crew,” whose efforts were crucial in saving the National event.

Doug Shepherd, the NRCC president, acknowledged retiring directors Charlie Ross and Jim Swanson by presenting them with honorary pins.

Western zone judge Marg Murray took a moment to address the women who make up a portion of the crew. As an advocate for “Girl Power,” Marg shared empowering words about the role of women in the retriever sport.

We enjoyed another delicious feast prepared by Prairie Fusion Catering, which included pulled pork, coleslaw, salad, and brownies for dessert.

Wednesday also marked the conclusion of the silent auction. A heartfelt thank you to the sponsors and individuals who donated items for the auction, which is an essential fundraising component of the National event.

We would like to thank Dennis Hong from Dogtra Canada for attending the event. Dennis answered questions, distributed some promotional items, and showcased Dogtra’s latest line of dog training collars.

Our Thank-You’s cannot be expressed enough to everyone!
