Good morning and welcome to Day 3 of the 2025 National Retriever Championship in Balmoral, MB.

We experienced a few thunderstorms overnight, which left us with some puddles this morning. The sky is partly cloudy, with the sun breaking through occasionally. The temperature is currently 18 degrees Celsius, with a forecast high of 24 degrees. The winds are light but noticeable, coming from the southeast, and are expected to become breezy this afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 22 km/h. The test area is oriented facing northeast and runs from a mound.

Test #4 is a land quad with three retired guns and an honour, in a gorgeous field beside 2-island pond at the MGDA grounds. The guns are shot around the clock, short left, long left, middle right, short right. Gun #1 is a hen mallard thrown l-r at 98 yds; gun #2 is a drake mallard thrown l-r at 284 yards; gun #3 is a hen mallard thrown r-l at 173 yards; gun #4 is a hen mallard thrown l-r at 138 yds.  Guns 1,2, and 3 retire when they hear #4 gun.  Gun #1 is thrown into the cover near the base of the grove of trees.  Gun #2 is thrown across a swale ditch with water in it. Gun #2 lands in front of a bush on the mowed grass, and the go-bird lands out in the open on the mowed grass.   The honour dog is situated to the right and on the flat ground below the running dog (on the mound).  There is a road that runs parallel to the right-side guns, and a pond further to the right.  If dogs get deep of guns 2 or 3, there is a lot of open space for them to run!

The male test dog ran at 7:35 am, and the test is about 5-6:00 minutes.  Dog #51 came to line at 7:55 am.

Today’s breakfast sponsor is the NRCC Directors, and Abbey and her team at Prairie Fusion Catering continue to put on great meals.   And speaking of great meals…Prairie Fusion put on an amazing dinner at the Balmoral Hall on Monday evening, featuring perogies, cabbage rolls, coleslaw, salad, and apple crumble for dessert; it was truly a prairie comfort food feast!  Folks were also busy bidding up the silent auction items; the auction closes at the Workers’ party on Wednesday.
